Your Support of the Digital Vault initiative allows us to continue to add and share

valuable history with all Oregonians!

Today, sustaining and growing the Oregon Historical Society requires imagination and investment in tools that empower Oregonians to explore and use our unique collections in new ways. To be among the nation’s greatest historical institutions, we must embrace the latest scholarship, state-of-the-art preservation methods, and the ways technology can advance our mission.

OHS took a huge step toward those goals with the launch of Digital Collections in May 2017. OHS Digital Collections provides online access to a rich variety of materials from the OHS Research Library, including manuscript, photograph, film, and oral history collections. Behind the scenes, dedicated OHS staff carefully scan and catalog each item to ensure the quality and context of the original materials is preserved. Just like the original materials, the resulting digital files require robust storage and ongoing stewardship to guarantee long-term access. They are safeguarded using rigorous digital preservation workflows, systems, and storage processes called the OHS Digital Vault.

OHS Digital Collections are dynamic, and growing every month. Your support helps to put history at the fingertips of people in every corner of Oregon — and far beyond.
